FAQs

n
Q: Sometimes when I switch quickly from a non-adjusted to DAR-adjusted version of the same track the DAR-adjusted one sounds a bit flat.

A: Both the eye and ear have a tendency to be temporarily deceived by the ‘bigger is better’ syndrome (visually for example over brightness and saturation, in the audio sense regarding overall volume, relative bass and treble levels etc). In reality it is quality rather than quantity which counts.

The aim of the Digital Audio Renovation plugin is not to ‘enhance’ recorded music, but rather remove all digital-related distortions and restore the correct overall sound. Over time the DAR-adjusted version of songs will sound vastly more pleasant, natural and satisfying.

For this reason it is recommended that any evaluation of the DAR plugin involves at least some prolonged and uninterrupted periods of listening with the effect applied, rather than constantly switching back and forward between on and off settings.

n
Q:  I am unhappy in other ways with the sound quality being obtained with the Digital Audio Renovation software.

A: The first thing to do is check that equalisers or other DSPs (Digital Signal Processors) have not been activated in the relevant music player or soundcard. Whilst perfectly acceptable in their own right it is possible that adjusting or switching them off when the DAR  software is activated will provide a better overall result.

If that does not solve the problem make sure that the latest soundcard drivers are installed. If they are an uninstall and reinstall routine can help restore the card’s best performance. Finally check the hardware aspects of the audio chain, that cables are properly seated, where speakers are used that they are connected in phase (i.e. positive wire to positive speaker terminal) etc.

Q: What other settings should I use alongside the DAR plugin - re soundcard volume, media player output plugin, resampling enabled or not etc.?

A: Each specific computer audio setup is different and it is beyond the scope of these FAQs to give detailed advice in these areas. Whichever basic configuration is already preferred will be greatly improved by the use of the DAR plugin, though see FAQ above about the potential dangers of misusing equalisers, other DSPs in general etc.

n
Q: I have noticed that a new folder with some small files in it has appeared in the directory where the DAR plugin (Demo or Full) is stored.

A: Many .dll type programs, including the DAR plugin, call upon sub-routines which are stored in their own folder. If this folder is accidentally deleted it will simply be recreated, with contents, the next time the DAR plugin is used.

next time the DAR plugin is used.
